Please read and review!
Fear stabbed through Skypool like a lost twoleg as smoke filled her nostrils. She could hear loud screeching in the background in the roaring of the fire. She quickly woke her kits and they scrambled out into the clearing. The Clan was already gone, so she picked up her younger kit, Brightkit and flicked her tail for Wildkit to follow her. They pelted out of camp until they came to the river. She could see ThunderClan, smoking in the distance. She caught a glimpse of her Clan slowly making their way through the tangled branches of gorse and bramble. Skypool panicked. Brightkit and Wildkit could not swim yet, and hidden in the smoke she scented fox.
She spotted a bush and told Wildkit to stay there. Glancing behind her, Skypool waded across the river with Brightkit leaving Wildkit coughing in the bush. Wildkit saw a shadow getting closer, and closer. Suddenly, a huge, reddish-brown fox crashed through the bush, snatched Wildkit and bounded toward the only place where the fire did not spread. Wildkit heard some hissing and looked around wirily. “Get off our territory!” The fox jumped with surprise and accidentally dropped its prize. Wildkit lay stunned in the dirt. She gasped at the sudden pain as the fox quickly slammed its filthy paw on her chest to keep her from scrambling away. Wildkit yowled when the fox’s claws sank into her ribs.
The fox sprang into the air and lunged at the patrol, lashing out with its other paw and dragging Wildkit with it. Un-afraid, the warriors pounced on the fox’s back and clawed wildly. The fox’s eyes widened in anger and fear as one of the she-warriors darted forward and bit hard at the paw holding Wildkit. Knowing that it had no chance, the fox fled and left Wildkit with the other cats. The cat that bit the fox’s paw gently picked up Wildkit and, with the other warriors following her, they pelted toward WindClan.
Wildkit stayed still while the Warriors examined her. “Which Clan is she from?” a dark grey she-cat asked.
Wildkit heard a warrior answer, “We don’t know. The fire spread to all of the Clans besides ours and the ashes and soot hide her scent.”
Wildkit looked up as a small brown she-cat loomed over her and smiled, “Do you have a name?” she asked.
Wildkit smiled back, “I’m Wildkit,” she said and she started to cough.
The cat inspected the slashes on her chest. “I’ll be right back,” the cat said as she hurried off into a den full of leaves.
“Which Clan are you from?” a black and white tom asked her.
Wildkit looked towards the sky, trying to think, “I don’t remember,” she answered, “I was always in a den with some other cats.”
The she-cat rushed back to her patient and pressed the cobwebs that she was carrying onto her wound. “Ouch!” Wildpaw waved her paws in the air as if trying to scratch the fox. The cat took some leaves and chewed them up making them a pulp. She licked it over the cobwebs and Wildpaw sighed, feeling a little better.
The grey she-cat, who was watching patiently, helped her to her paws, “Well, you are welcome here. This can be your new Clan and you can be a WindClan warrior some day. By the way, I’m Stormcloud.”
Wildkit padded with the she-cat, “That would be nice,” she said to herself as she lead her to a small den with other kits in it.
Skypool shook herself off and ran to the bush but Wildkit wasn’t there. Suddenly an overpowering scent of fox washed over her. She franticly looked left and right but to no avail. With tears in her eyes she flung her head on her back and let out a heartbreaking yowl of sorrow. With a heavy heart, she slowly swam back across the soot covered river to retrieve Brightkit. She looked into the fire, imagining the fox tearing her precious kit into pieces. Closing her eyes she picked up her only daughter and dove through the bushes to catch up with her Clan.
