Quartzkit stared into the sky, looking at the blankness. It wasn't black though. The sun poured onto her fur in a comforting way. She was becoming used to the shadows and, everyday, had the same repetition. She wandered around camp, memorizing every scent and every paw step. She knew the camp inside and out. But she avoided the medicine cat den at all costs. She refused to believe that her fate laid with herbs and sick cats. She allowed her paws to follow her course. Then she unexpectedly stumbled and fell.

Bluefall heard a tiny thump outside the Meedicine Cat Den,she ran outside and saw Quartzkit.She ran over to her,sniffing her to see if she had any injuries."Quartzkit!Are you ok?"

"I-I think I'm fine Bluefall." She pushed herself up and nearly fell again. She pulled her right paw up. It hurt to put pressure on it. She realized she stumbled over a rock. She felt herself shaking. It had really broken her confidence. She hadn't been this close to crying in a long time. She sat down, trying to keep the tears back. "Actually I'm not fine. My paw hurts."

Quartzkit obliged. She favored her left paw. She sat den when she sensed she was in the medicine cat den. She could tell because the scent of herbs was strong. It was quiet and smelled like Sandfur and Bluefall. She also detected hints of Owlstar, the queens and several kits.

"Ok. I'm going to chew up some herbs.Just be still for a mintue,Quartzkit."Bluefall told the she-cat.She padded to the back of the den,where the herb stock-pile was and found some nettle leaves to drop the swelling of her paw and grabbed some cobwebs. She chewed the nettle leaves and gently put it onto Quartzkit's swelled paw and she wrapped it with cobwebs."Now,lie down in an empty nest,Quartzkit,your going to be here for a few days."

Quartzkit let out a noise that sounded halfway between a whine and a sigh. She obeyed though and curled up, her paw pulled tightly to her body.

"It won't be that bad,Quartzkit. You could even help me and Sandfur around the den."Bluefall smiled at the small kit. Then she thought to herself.'She's going to be a Medicine Cat if she likes it or not.'Then,she shook her head and licked Quartzkit's head a few times,then turned around and started to tend to other cats that needed their help.

The sand colored medicine cat walked into her den, and saw two cats in there. "Hello Bluefall and Quartzkit how are you both?" she mewed to them.

"I'm doing great,Sandfur.Quartzkit fell and her paw was swollen so I chewed up some nettle leaves to ease the swelling then I wrapped it in some cobwebs."Bluefall smiled at Sandfur.Then,looked at poor Quartzkit. She sighed,feeling bad for her.

Bladepaw was just coming back from hunting and was carrying two mice. As he set them in the fresh-kill pile he sighed what a whimpy catch he thought as he heard a thump from somewhere near the medicine den. Turning around he saw Quartzkit on the ground and Blueflight standing over here mumbling something. Blinking he crept forward and stood near Blueflight when she led Quartzkit into her den.

"Hello Sandfur." She said, lifting her head and twitching her ears. Someone else was in the den too. She scented. "Bladepaw?" She asked. Why was he here? He's not hurt is he? She wondered.

Bluefall turned around and saw Bladepaw,standing there,at the entrance of her and Sandfur's den."Yes Bladepaw? Are you hurt?" She looked at the apprentice,he didn't look hurt.

"No no" he meowed. "I'm not hurt, I just came to see if Quartzkit was...alright" licking his chest fur in embarassment he backed out of the den.

"If you are not hurt or sick please get out of my den. Thank you."Bluefall knew it sounded harsh but with the prophcies,Owlstar,and now Quartzkit,she was awfully stressed right now.She sighed,her nice cheery mood was now impaient and harsh. She felt as if she could snap at any of her friends.
