"SMOKEPAW!!!" Waterclaw said as she saw her apprentice. After Silverstar had said Smokepaw might be ready for her warrior name. She decided that she should give smokepaw another battle training "class". "We're going battle training!" Waterclaw said.

Smokepaw had a solemn look on her face. She did as she was asked, no questions. She had the feeling that it would always be like this. Following orders. Doing other's work. Yet the news about the wolves had thrown her a piece of fresh-kill, and it was rotten. These were dangerous times, she knew and they were taking a toll on her already bone weary and spirit worn body. Stress made her grow lean and muscular. She had a new sharp, hungry look in her eye that few met already. A change was coming to the world and Smokepaw didn't want to miss it.

"Smokepaw, why so solemn? Cheer up, you may earn your warrior name!" Waterclaw said to Smokepaw. Then she got to the "place". She new she would need to give Smokepaw a brief touch up on her battle techniques. "I'm a big cat and you are smaller than me. This is a new move. You must do the leap and hold technique. Spring onto my back and grip with sheathed claws The will be harder to do than with unsheathed claws. But for safety, use sheathed claws. Try it." Waterclaw said. She knew that Smokepaw may have learned this before she came to become a warrior, but oh well. This would be a good warm up for whatever she was going to show her next. 125 words

Smokepaw gave a halfhearted smile. She didn't get the point, wasn't a name just a name? But it didn't matter. If this would make her feel more accepted in the clan, she wouldn't complain. Frankly, Smokepaw found it confusing the cats always changing names all the time. When Smokepaw was told to attack her mentor, she obliged. Battle was her favorite type of training. She loved the adrenaline pumping through her vanes. She waited a moment, slinking around the larger she-cat. She hissed with her already long, fluffy fur puffing up to make her look nearly the size of Waterclaw. Smokepaw leaped on to her mentors back, grabbing hold as she could. If she were trying to hurt Waterclaw, she would sink her teeth into the back of her neck, but having a feeling she would get in trouble if she did that, she continued to cling. She knew to have a chance in a battle, she would have to get Watetrclaw to the ground. It took all of her will power to not unsheath her claws and try to bring her down. Smokepaw slid off her back, hissing violently and thinking several foul curses she wouldn't utter aloud. Determined, she leaped back on. (210 words)

"Good job. Now let's move on to a new move. Roll, Crack and Play dead. I made this move up a few moons ago. First you roll and then pretend to crack your neck and play dead. When the come near you, kick your enemy and leap on to them. Try it on me." Waterclaw said. Hopefully this move wasn't as confusing.

Smokepaw was slightly confused. She pretend stumbled, falling and rolling, pretend cracked her neck and lay still. As soon as Waterclaw was in range, she leaped up and landed heavily and squarely on her shoulders. It seemed easy, almost too easy. She gripped tightly with her teeth, but not tight enough to hurt her. (54 words. Battle move didn't have much to work with)

Waterclaw laughed but then she shook smokepaw off in a second. "When attacking a bigger opponent remember to always have a tight grip. Right now you can hold on tighter. My fur is a little thicker so it won't hurt as much. Try again and hold on tighter. This time just hold on tight. Then I will flip you off and show you on a new move. " Waterclaw said (Try to keep on and then i won't be able to flip you off.)

"So, no holding back." She stated. Smokepaw crouched, bunching her muscles up tight. She shoved her body off the ground and slammed into Waterclaw. She sank her fangs into the scruff of her neck, her claws dug into Waterclaw's fur, hopefully missing her flesh. Her grip was tight. Smokepaw hadn't been in a battle in a long time and even training gave her an adrenaline rush.

Waterclaw tried to shake Smokepaw off, but she was gripping her very tightly. Then she knew what to do. Waterclaw reached for Smokepaw's paws, and knocked them off. "That is for if the enemy is smaller and has a tight grip. Good job, you were holding very tight. When you see my claws, that tells you to go for my legs in the back. Remember that. Besides that, good job. That is a new move. This time I will be leaping on to you, try to get me off." Waterclaw said to Smokepaw. 94 words

Somkepaw said nothing but prepared herself. She was getting tired of this type of fighting and wanted to try a real mock battle. This was going to be good. Smokepaw had a few ideas on how to get her off, but they were old moves, rogue moves. It wasn't dirty fighting, not like most rogues. She was just fighting smart. Smokepaw waited patiently for Waterclaw's attack.

Waterclaw leaped on to Smokepaw and landed squarely on her shoulders, holding Smokepaw's pelt tightly. Her claws we sheathed since Smokepaw's fur was so thin. Waterclaw's grip was slowly slipping but she managed to keep on for another few minutes. Her grip kept slowly becoming looser. Hoping she wouldn't fall off, she held tighter. But then she remembered this wasn't a battle, just a practice. She knew she couldn't hurt her apprentice. And she got looser just a little bit so she wouldn't hurt her apprentice. 93 words

Smokepaw was prepared when Waterclaw jumped onto her. She bent her joints so Waterclaw wouldn't break her. She wriggled in Waterclaw's grip. She kept squirming under her grip. It wasn't getting her anywhere, so she went stiff, and used her claw in the ground to pull herself out. She went still for a moment. She felt Waterclaw's grip loosen. She took her chance and slid from Waterclaw's grip. Her fur was a tangled mess, and her eyes were bored. She wanted something more advanced.

"Great job, so now let's see if you can combine all the moves and all your old ones. We can have a small real fight. I'll start. Sheathed claws, if one person says stop, we let go. Let's start!" Waterclaw said. She sheathed her claws and started to use the simple front swipe on Smokepaw. It was a easy attack and she followed with a leap and raked her sheated claw along smokepaw's back. 78 words

Smokepaw was caught by surprise at Waterclaw's attack. If it were a real battle, she would have been dead. Smokepaw recovered quickly, padding circles around Waterclaw. Picking up the pace, she used the new move she learned and jumped onto her back. She gripped tightly, throwing her weight around and trying to get Waterclaw to the ground . Smokepaw resisted the urge to unsheathe her claws and dig into her sides. Instead she rolled off of Waterclaw and under her. She attempted to kick the feet out from under her.

Smokepaw's tight grip caught her off gaurd. When Smokepaw fell off Waterclaw new that Smokepaw was going underneath. When smokepaw went underneath, she smiled. Smokepaw was trying to kick her but Waterclaw knew it was coming so she jumped up avoiding Smokepaw's attack and faced her again. This time she knew that the fastest way to defeat Smokepaw was to unbalance her. Waterclaw swiped her front paw on the ground trying to make smokepaw collapse. 77 words

Smokepaw allowed Waterclaw to knock her off balance. She used her momentum to roll back onto her paws. Smokepaw knew this was going no where trying to use her new moves. Waterclaw expected them all. It was risky, but Smokepaw wasn't about to give up. She crouched, the leaped at her, swiping at her face.

Waterclaw blocked the strike but she fell back and landed on the ground. "You got me there. You did very well Smokepaw, great idea letting me knock you over, I never saw that coming. You had a very busy day, come on lets go back to camp and get some fresh kill." Waterclaw said to her apprentice. 57 words

Smokepaw was out of breath. The battle was brief, but exciting. She tried not to smile at her mentor's praise. Smokepaw shook the dust from her fur.
"Yeah, freshkill sounds good." Smokepaw replied, feeling confident. Maybe it wasn't the best feeling to have, Smokepaw knew that getting too confident was what got you killed. She needed to stay serious and realistic.
Smokepaw started padding back to camp, returning to he solemn nature.

How about you get a little bit and we can eat together?" Waterclaw asked her apprentice, wanting to talk to her apprentice more. (54 words)
